Update from the Governing Board

Dear Wave Community,

My name is Kfir Ami-ad and I’m the new President of the Wave Aquatics Governing Board. I’m reaching out to share key leadership changes at Wave. These changes involve the Governing Board and the Executive Director role.

Wave Governing Board

Recently, the Board added two new members: Cari Brumfield and me:

Cari Intro

This year will be my family’s 7th year as part of the Wave swim team and it has been a great experience.  Watching the hard work and progress these kids make is amazing.  I have enjoyed helping out on the swim team and volunteering in various roles.  I am excited to continue my volunteer efforts by joining the board to help the Wave organization grow and continue to provide great aquatics programs.

Kfir Intro

I’m honored to join the Wave governing board and serve the Wave family as the president of the board! It’s safe to say that swimming shaped my life, being a swimmer in my childhood and experiencing and learning first-hand the Wave values of Teamwork, Perseverance, Grit, Hard work, Community, Support, and Fun. Being part of the Wave family in the last five years having three boys in the swim team, I’m thrilled to see them grow as athletes and human beings, thrive, all while having fun and making many friendships along the way. I commit to you that the board will work hard to create an environment where staff, coaches and athletes can grow and thrive. If you have any questions, please contact me or any member of the Board.

After nearly 1.5 years as the President of the Wave Governing Board, Ann Meverden is stepping down from her role in the Wave board. And after nearly 2 years as the Secretary and Vice President of the Wave Governing Board, Inbal Shani will be stepping down on November 1st from her roles in the Wave board.  Thank you, Ann and Inbal, for your commitment and service over the years!

With that, here is the full list of board members and roles:

· Kfir Ami-ad, President

· Julie Soedel, Treasurer

· Cari Brumfield, Secretary

· Ivan Chachkov, member at large

With Ann and Inbal stepping down we have an opening for an additional board member. If you are interested in joining the Board, please contact Cari at Cari.Brumfield@waveaquaticsboard.org

Executive Director Due to changes in the market and challenges Wave was facing in 2019, the board decided to evaluate the organizational health and structure.  After carefully assessing the needs of Wave, we have decided to make some changes to the ED role. Given these changes, Jonathan Alford has stepped down from his role as Wave Executive Director effective 9/20/19.

The board will initiate a new search for an ED with an updated scope and organizational needs. More details will be shared in the near future. In the interim, Chad Winkle (Swim Team Head Coach), Michael Montgomery (Aquatics Director), Wade Praeger (Masters Head Coach), Julia Shmutser (Water Polo Head Coach) and Kim Dang (Accountant) will report directly to the governing board.

Pool Space Updates

The Redmond Pool renovation is almost complete, with a new opening date in early November (exact date is still TBD). We are excited to see the investment the City of Redmond is making to improve this valuable community asset and improve the overall experience for all community members. We will share more details on program schedules in Redmond once we have the final date from the City of Redmond.

In the meanwhile, Wave Aquatics signed a lease with Redmond’s Strattonwood Swim Club through May 2020 which provide us with additional pool space. We are hopeful that our partnership with Strattonwood will continue for many more years, opening up new opportunities for their community during their off season and giving Wave more flexibility with programming.

Final Words

To the Wave community, thank you for your support of aquatics and of the Wave organization. The immediate priorities for the Board are getting Redmond Pool back up and running and hiring a new ED. In the coming weeks we will also work with the staff leadership to evaluate and evolve Wave’s Mission & Vision, Roles & Responsibilities and Culture.

The Board and I are looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards, Kfir Ami-ad President, Wave Aquatics Governing Board Kfir.Ami-ad@waveaquaticsboard.org
